A Blog About Song Lyrics!
Ok. I am so totally new to running my own blog, that I need to preface my first post with "I am so totally new to running my own blog." I figure that's a pretty good excuse for you to forgive me for any blog transgressions I may commit.
Words are my life, a friend reminds me when I have a snappy comeback for something he says. And of course, being an advertising copywriter, words are my life. Maybe that's why I was always just as fascinated with the words to the music I listened (listen) to, as much as the musical notes. So let's talk about lyrics. Their power to inspire, to amuse, to escape to places we want or don't want to go. To serve as anthems for our lives, for protest, for love gone bad, or love gone good... well you get the idea.
The point is — lyrics have the power to stir our emotions, memories, feelings, beliefs. We all have specific songs that affect us in specific ways. Let's talk about them. Specifically.

Im totally new to blogs too. Just thought id let you know that I know where you got the blog title from. An inspired choice :). So are we supposed to throw our favourite lyrics on here?...or are we having a blog that meanders merrily threadless on its way Glassy?...Dave Glass (UK).
ReplyDeleteAh Ive read it properly now ;). Talk about specific songs specifically. I named my daughter Sarah after the song Sara Smile honestly..and the ex-wife never knew. And Sara Smile in turn reminded me of my first true love. I didnt think Id get away with the spelling of the name as well. So when I hear the song it reminds me of three Ladies...2 Sara's and one Sarah...sweet ;)

ReplyDeleteBusy working all week Dave but Ill catch up with it at the weekend. Another memorable song lyrically was Foreigner, Blue Morning Blue Day. I was late into Foreigner and ended up with this album by about ooooh 1983. Well that was a track on the album Double Vision. This song reminds me of my rebellious, lustful early 20's....there were plenty of "three cups of coffee but I cant clear my head" days and "Dont telephone cos I wont be alone!!!" applied, but I did own my own hair then. But they were bittersweet lovelorn days too, a double edged sword. I did actually go on to record it on my only CD...yep...I sounded like a shit Chris Rea, but it was fun :).
